Positioned in the secluded Starcia Valley, approximately 9km from Montalcino, it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in Romanesque style, probably Cistercian, with evident details of Lombard influences.
The Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey, located about 15km from Montalcino, has the appearance of one of the great Benedictine abbeys. Everything is orderly, tidy and operating. Prayer and work. “The Institute for Book Restoration” is located here.
Bagno Vignoni is located a few minutes from Montalcino in the heart of the Val d’Orcia. What makes this place so enchanting and unique is the big pool of boiling 52° water in the center of town.
Bagni San Filippo is a small thermal spa at 524m above sea level on the border between the Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata known for its sulphuric thermal springs rich in calcium carbonate.
The hydrothermal basin in San Casciano dei Bagni actually has 42 springs. The thermal springs gush out at a temperature of 40°C and naturally create little waterfalls and places where you can stop for a moment and enjoy.
